The 2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid is a 4-door full size SUV delivering a monumental 40% improvement in city-driving gas consumption from its completely gasoline powered predecessor. Delivering a 6000lb towing capacity while retaining its 5.7L Hemi gasoline engine and providing enough comfortable seating for 8, this Durango hybrid works with similar hybrid technologies as other vehicles on the road today. The Durango hybrid utilizes the same two-mode transmission that's featured in the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. This transmission, developed through the joint efforts of BMW, GM, and Mercedes Benz, allows the vehicle to shift, depending on power demands, from electric power to gasoline power or to both electric power and gasoline power at its own discretion. A regenerative braking system uses heat energy from the vehicle's brakes to recharge its batteries. Total calculated gas mileage is around 19mpg city and 20mpg highway. MSRP excluding tax and optional features starts around $45,340.
Better Fuel Economy Doesn't Mean Weak
The Durango hybrid combines a number of features that dramatically improve its fuel consumption while retaining its ability to pull a heavy handed work load. With a total of 385 horse power available, this hybrid can still count on its own V8 muscle when needed. 345 of those horses come from the gas engine alone, along with 380 foot-pounds of torque. This combination of gas power and electrical power allow the Durango Hybrid to pull about 6000 pounds behind it, leaving few jobs untouched by this new brand of workhorse.
Standard Features
The Dodge Durango Hybrid comes with a serious set of standards. A standard MYGIG Infotainment system includes 130 channels of SIRIUS Satellite Radio. A standard external MP3 jack lets you ride with your own music, and is made even more flexible with a standard AM/FM stereo with CD changer. A standard tire-pressure monitoring system lets you keep a close eye on your fuel efficiency. An Electronic Stability program helps drivers maintaining control of their vehicle during extreme maneuvers. And four-wheel antilock disc brakes combined with an all-speed traction control system keep the Durango Hybrid continuously in the driver's control. All this arrives with 152.4 cubic feet of best-in-class interior room. And all Durango hybrids come standard with 4 Wheel Drive.
Optional Features
The Durango Hybrid offers a leather interior for those wanting the ultimate hybrid experience. For those who want to keep their passengers in the utmost of comfort, optional rear reclining seats are available, too.
Why We Like It
The 2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid mixes the latest in fuel-saving technology with a modestly luxurious kind of generous comfort, all wrapped up inside the body and the frame of a classic workaholic. With enough power to get most towing jobs done, and with enough economy features to rival other hybrids on the market today, the Durango Hybrid delivers the best of both affordability and comfort.
